January 4th, 2010

1. Changing Desktop Icons.

First of all you must know how add icons on your desktop. The easist way is to change your default shortcuts icon on your desktop with any .icos. But for a real hardcore mods, I’d recommend you to use Avedesk. Avedesk provides a smoother and sleeker icons but most importantly it supports other image formats like .pngs as well. So this eases up our customization process. Download Avedesk 1.4 here.

1.1 Default Ways.

I could say this is the easiest one whereby most of the users should know how to.

Right click on your desktop shortcut and choose “Properties”.

4

Select “Change Icon”.

5

Select “Browse”.

6

Make sure that the icon that you choose in this method be in .ico format. If you have other icons in other formats let’s say .png, you can simply convert them into .ico by converting them using this website. Click here. Otherwise, just proceed to the next step.

And you’re done :)

1.2 Using Avedesk.

Avedesk will actually ease up all the troubles. The only thing is that you need to install the software accordingly. Download Avedesk 1.4 and paste it inside the folder C:\Program Files.

Make sure you open the “register” file before opening “Avedesk”. Once everything is done proceed to the next step.

Download my default settings for the hard disk here.

You should have something like this. Open the .avedesk theme file.

2

Next right click on the theme.

3

This empty icon will appear on your desktop. If it doesn’t, try to adjust the x and y configuration according to your desktop as follow. This is my default desktop configuration. The values vary depending on your desktop.

Now;

4

Select the “Icon” tab and then click on the “Set Image” button to select your icon.

5

Select your icon and hit “Open”. Note that by using Avedesk you can actually open both .png and .ico icons. So that’s quite handy over there.

6

Then press on the “Shortcut” tab and follow the instructions.

7

… And wahla, your first icon! :)
